Ferrari Joins Alcoa in Opening New Spaceframe Manufacturing Plant

MODENA, Italy, & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa announced today that it has opened its new automotive assembly plant in Modena, Italy. The new facility covers more than 5,000 square meters and features state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. The plant, which employs 75, required an investment by the world’s leading aluminium producer of more than one million euros.

Alcoa Recognized By Ferrari With President's Award

Alcoa supplied the first-generation aluminum spaceframe for the Ferrari 360 Modena, and currently makes the aluminum spaceframes for the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and F430. The award was presented by Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo to Alcoa Chairman and CEO Alain Belda in Maranello, Italy.

Alcoa is Ferrari's strategic partner for the creation of advanced aluminum spaceframe technology.
The companies have collaborated on four generations of chassis structures for Ferrari's Granturismo vehicles, including the F430, 612 Scaglietti, and the 599 GTB Foriano. Alcoa has more than two decades of experience in spaceframe design, engineering, and manufacturing. The company produces spaceframe components for Audi in Germany and finished structures for Ferrari at its new facility in Modena, Italy.
Alcoa's Modena facility features two high-speed machining centers, two robotic joining centers and 12 spaceframe assembly cells. Alcoa's Modena employees are highly skilled in automotive joining and assembly technologies. Their capabilities are embodied in every Alcoa spaceframe. The quality of their work was recognized in 2005 when Alcoa received the Podio Ferrari President's Award. |
